WVO Experience / The Splash effect - Part One

I have been running the Simple Centrifuge rotor for about two years. Originally I ran a single rotor at about 2 gallons per hour with great success. I acquired a second rotor and bumped my flow up to 4 gallons per hour.

My process includes pre-filtering the oil at 600 microns then heating to 180-200 degrees. Then it gravity feeds into the centrifuge at a rate of 2 gallons per hour per rotor (4 gallons/hour). I had noticed the splash effect from the beginning but chalked it up to just being part of the process.

Fillup4Free invite

I recently posted an invite to join WVO Pipeline on the FillUp4Free forum. I would like to express my sincere interest in managing one of these sites to it potential. I am not in a mode of trying to eliminate one over the other.

Second Centrifuge

I will be adding a second centrifuge to our process. This second unit will give a greater capacity to clean your oil. I have been thinking about how to put this in the system and I think the best solution is just to slightly increase the flow rate.

This should provide three benefits. The first and most obvious is a quicker cleaning process. The second is a polishing process and the third is since the feeder valve will be opened more to provide a higher flow rate there should be less chance of the valve clogging.

As far as the "polishing" is concerned, I'm not sure what it will accomplish. But given that I will be allowing a higher flow rate the oil will spend less time in the first bowl so it just might prove out.

Parts quality and the US economy

I have been using the Simple Centrifuge rotor (bowl) for about 18 months. I have process around 5000 gallons and have had wonderful success. Of all my customers I have only had one complaint and I chalked it up to averages.

I have followed a few of the other companies that make the "same" style of rotor and it has come to my attention that some are made from cast aluminum and are made in CHINA. These other companies have essentially done a disservice to you and to America.

The issue with the rotor itself is that it is cast. what this means is the aluminum is melted and poured into a mold. Then it is put on a lathe and cleaned up to look nice and pretty. Why is this bad? Because poured castings can have all sorts of imperfections in the metal. It can have holes that you can't see. When this rotor is spinning at 3600 rpm or faster and has 4 to 8 oz of oil in it... it can come apart and do all sorts of damage if a person is near.

The issue with America is that theses parts are being made in China for the purpose of a quick buck to be made. Our country is currently in a recession and sending work out of this country, especially to china who is starting to not accept American dollars, hurts our economy even more. Sure it costs more to manufacture in our own country, but those dollars stay here.

In a day where most everything is made in China, we don't need another part, especially one that helps a guy save money on fuel, made cheaply in in a foreign land.

I have only named one company ,Simple Centrifuge, because I use their rotor and they are American and make their system in the USA. I won't name the others. You can take an educated guess... better yet, look at the price and even better... call them and ask.

Please consider the manufacturing process and location of the parts when you buy your centrifuge.
